The Evolution of UnexMED

Health has always been one of Unex’s cornerstones, and the creation of the medical program reinforces this commitment. Check out the progress that has brought us this far:

• 2004 — The UniFTC Network launches its medical program, marking the beginning of a journey dedicated to healthcare and quality medical education.
• 2019 — The UniFTC Network enters into a partnership with the Institute for Cadaver Training (ITC), which opens a facility on the Salvador campus, promoting significant advances in practical training.
• February 2022 — The UniFTC University Center in Feira de Santana receives authorization from the Ministry of Education (MEC) to launch a medical program.
• June 2022 — With the program’s accreditation, the UniFTC University Center in Feira de Santana is now known as Unex – University Center of Excellence, marking a new phase in its history.
• December 2022 — UniFTC College in Itabuna has also received authorization from the Ministry of Education (MEC) to offer a medical degree program.
• January 2023 — The Itabuna campus officially adopts its new institutional identity and becomes Unex – College of Excellence, reinforcing its commitment to health and academic excellence.
• August 2023 — The new brand Unex is launched in Vitória da Conquista, marking the institution’s arrival in the city.
• August 2023 — The Jequié campus is also undergoing a rebranding, becoming Unex – College of Excellence and aligning itself with the institution’s new direction.
• July 2024 — The campuses in Jequié and Vitória da Conquista receive authorization to launch medical programs, consolidating UnexMED’s presence in different regions of Bahia.
• December 2024 — UnexMED hosted the 1st Congress on Urgent and Emergency Care in the Interior of Bahia in Feira de Santana, bringing together renowned medical specialists from various parts of Brazil to share knowledge and innovative practices in the field.
• January 2025 — UnexMED is accredited by the American Heart Association, making it a leading provider of emergency training in Bahia for healthcare professionals and students.
• February 2025 — The Metabolic Research Center is inaugurated at UnexMED in Feira de Santana, expanding the institution’s leading role in scientific research.
• April 2025 — UnexMED opens its own medical center in Feira de Santana, with more than 32 examination rooms, further strengthening its practical experience and ties to the community.

The Expansion of Medical Education to the Interior

For many years, medical schools were concentrated in the major capital cities. However, with the growing demand for healthcare professionals and the strengthening of primary care networks, a new reality has emerged: medical education in the interior, offering the same quality and social commitment as those of major institutions.

UnexMED embraced this change, becoming a leader in bringing medical education to the interior. We bring a high-quality education to various regions of Bahia, connecting our students to local health care systems starting in their first semesters.
